String Scholarship Auditions

Audition Information

  • Past Scholarship recipients are welcome to apply if it has been one or more years since last receiving the LSO Scholarship

  • Applicants must be enrolled in a public or private school in the greater La Crosse Geographic area. Home schools are encouraged.

  • Scholarship funds available to young violinists, violists, cellists and bassists.

  • A ten-minute audition with the requirements as described below.

  • Awardment will be based on musicianship, interpretation, tone, rhythmic accuracy, intonation, technique, and the written paragraph and financial need.

 

Required Material For All Students:

A written paragraph explaining your need and desire to receive this scholarship.  (Complete on application form)

Elementary School Student Requirement (Currently in grades 3-5):

A prepared work that best demonstrates your technique and musical interpretation skills.

Middle School Student Requirements (Currently in grades 6-8):

  • A prepared work that best demonstrates your technique and musical interpretation skills.
  • Two scales of your choice.

High School Student Requirements (Currently in grades 9-11):

  • A prepared work that best demonstrates your technique and musical interpretation skills.
  • Two scales of your choice
  • You will be asked to sight read a short passage (LSO provides)

La Crosse Symphony Orchestra

String Scholarship

  • $300 towards private lessons with a La Crosse Symphony Orchestra Musician, which is equivalent to half of the tuition for ten 60-minute lessons per semester – the student/parent is responsible for the other half.
  • The Boys and Girls Club scholarship is a full $600 scholarship (only a student enrolled in lessons at BGC can apply for this scholarship).
  • 50% tuition scholarship to participate in one of the La Crosse Youth Symphony Orchestra’s performing groups for the 2019-2020 Season.
  • 2 Complimentary full season tickets to the La Crosse Symphony Orchestra
